World Cup number 3 takes us to Leogang, Austria for arguably the most picturesque stop of the year! The stunning mountain vistas welcome everyone to a town that does great schnitzels and really seems to embrace the race each year. A few key points, Dean Lucas is back racing, he has overcome the concussion he sustained in Fort William, his hand is a bit sore but we know how keen Dean is to race! A quick update from Cairns with more to come! Done and dusted, your 2017 World Championships have been decided in the jungle of far North Queensland. The day started off early with the junior classes as always, with Melanie Chappaz from France the fastest female. In the junior men Matt Walker from Great Britain goes home with a set of the rainbow stripes – hot favourite Finn Iles had some issues in his run and finished 10th. Day 4 here in Cairns and today was a day of practice, the last full day before race day tomorrow. The track has started to blow out and the dry conditions mean there are holes hiding everywhere – you only have to look at Rachel Atherton to see this, yesterday she got caught up coming into a corner and went down breaking her collarbone. Cairns – Day 3: Seeding & Timed Practice

Today the action wound up a notch with seeding runs for the juniors and timed practice for the elite riders, our first chance to get some idea of everyone’s speed… Of course some riders crashed, some took it easy, etc, etc. but overall it was a good indication. In the junior women it was Shania Rawson from across the ditch, in New Zealand, who seeded fastest, with the fastest Australian, Ellie Smith in 4th. For the junior men Finn Iles showed his world cup experience seeding first, there were plenty of Aussies snapping at his heels – Josh Clarke was in 2nd, Harry Parsons in 4th and the rest of the team not far behind! Cairns – Day 2: Practice

We finally got to see riders on track today.
We finally got to see riders on track today.

Day 2 here in Cairns and the first day of practice, the riders were all chomping at the bit! The conditions were dry and dusty, a thick layer of dirt was covering everything by the time practice was finished. It was hard to pick the fastest rider as everyone was pushing hard, there a few crashes nothing too major – unfortunately junior French rider Sylvain Cougoureux took a hard crash in the rock garden and it looked like he sustained a broken wrist.
