Round 2 of the 2011-12 Victorian DH series was held at Mt Major, located about 30kms outside of Shepparton. The hill used for the race was not the most impressive but due to some very good trail building we still had a 2+ minute track. Saturday conditions were dry and dusty and the track was becoming rougher with every rider. These conditions mixed with the 36 degree heat saw a lot of riders lose concentration and bite the dust, a track that outwardly looks simple enough to ride was actually proving to be quite difficult.
Race day came along and after the morning practice session it was straight into the qualification round where last year’s overall winner, Connor Fearon, set the fastest time in Elite Mens. First round winner Dean Lucas was quickest in U19s and Tegan Molloy topped the Women’s category.
Finals came around and it was Jacqui Lovett who took the win in Elite women’s. Tim Eaton just edged in front of Connor Fearon to take the Elite Men’s win by 0.04 seconds! But it was U19s Winner Dean Lucas who blew everyone away setting yet another quickest time, this time by over 2.5 seconds! Reckon he might be one to watch in the imminent national series?
Props to the event organisation, the weekend ran smooth, also 300+ entries made for a great atmosphere. Thanks for supplying that awesome water fountain trailer, riders would have died without it!
