A dry dusty track greeted riders for racing, this year the track followed the ‘old’ line, featuring a wooden wall ride to drop, rather than the switchbacks used last season when conditions were wet and slippery!
Mount Buller is one of the most technical tracksAof the season, just like the last round in Thredbo it isAa chairlift access track. It differs from Thredbo substantially because the top half of the track is super rocky and technical. Keeping your speed through here is critical because once it’s lost it’s hard to get back up to speed. Just like Thredbo there is a fine line between notAdoing enough practice runs to know your linesAor doing too manyAand tiring yourself out.
Seeding didn’t bring about too many surprises with the usual suspects Brosnan, Hannah (Tracey) and Fearon taking the top spots. It wasAgood to see Bryn Atkinson back and racing after breaking his femur last year, could this be his year?! As he said Buller has been good to him, he won the National Round here last year and “has a softspot” for the place.ARacing alongside Bryn for 2012 is his partner, Jill Kintner, aboard their Norco race bikes. With Tracey Hannah riding super fast it would be a good test of speed for both riders in Elite Women.A
As the crowd lined the track for racing everyone had their own predictions for who would take the win.AThe top two riders overall from the last seriesARicky Boyer and Rhys Atkinson took fourth and fifth respectively. Third place went to Bryn who says he is already getting use to his new bike. Second placed Sam Hill said he thought his run was fast but wasn’t happy that team mate Troy beat him. Sam goes home with the intention of training harder for the next round in Canberra. Winner Troy Brosnan “crossed the line with nothing left” but was still mind blown by his winning margin. The next round is in Stromlo on a track that has seenAa lot of work recently and promises to be another exciting race.
