Cold weather greeted riders, spectators, volunteers and everyone who turned out for the race, snow even fell overnight leading into the event!
Riders raced the Pony Express course which had seen track work leading into the event. The course itself was just under a kilometre long with fast riders clocking a time of under two minutes. A few jumps, rocky roll downs and the usual corners kept riders on their toes.
A strong field made up of up and coming juniors, along with seasoned veterans, were all signed in to race. The Under 19 men were first off and as expected the racing was tight, the top three were less than two seconds apart! Joel Willis held out Conor Bullard and Andrew Crimmins in third.
n Elite men it was youth that prevailed over experience, with Joey Vejvoda holding out Jack Moir. Both these riders are heading off to Austria for the World Championships so they appear to be on top of their game, which is awesome news for Australia! Now a veteran of the game, Ben Cory came home in third.
