Another World Cup wrapped up, Mont Sainte Anne lived up to its legendary status and provided an excellent race. Fortunately, depending on who you talked to of course, the rain held off.
A large crowd littered the track, some on the fast open jumps, others in the more technical areas, there were people everywhere!
The womens classAsaw close racing, mechanicals and Tracey Hannah bringing it home inAseventh.AIn the men’s race,Athe Aussie juniors who qualified, had their runs earlier in the day, Dean Lucas brought it home in 59th. Expect him to continue this form going into next weekend in Windham.
You have to make special note of Jack Moir finishing 44thAin his first World Cup (qualifying is an achievement by itself) and making plenty ofApeople sit up and take notice. Other notes from the men’sArace included; Neko Mulally having an absolutely vicious crash and knocking himself out, the speed he was carrying into the corner/jump made it plain scary to watch. This race has seen plenty of high speed accidents, proof that this track lives up to its hype. Another issue with this track has always been mechanicals, again that was the case this year. Unfortunately some of the Aussies got caught up in this, namely Mic Hannah who lost his chain completely and Josh Button who suffered a rear wheel flat.
As racing continued Connor Fearon picked up his best result this year in 28th, a super impressive run. Sam Hill came onto the course and lit up the timing board, taking the hot seat at the finish. What was encouraging to see was Sam’s fitness hold up at the bottom of the track, showing his return to form is still continuing. Sam would eventually finish fifth and despite what Greg Minnaar and Danny Hart could do in their amazing runs, it was Aaron Gwin who took the win. This time though the time gap was smaller than we are used to.
