CORC a Race 3 a Isaacs

Round 3 of the CORC series was at Isaacs over the weekend and on a brand new track! It featured a BIG road gap, here Phil Piazza sends it with no problems. Photo: Tom Clarke

A new track greeted riders for the race, this meant everyone got equal practice on it. Everyone enjoys riding new tracks and this one was super fun, it was fast with lots of off camber sections to keep you on your toes.

A good turn out of riders saw names like McMillan, Piazza, Eaton, Powell, Lee, Vejvoda and Ellison on the start list for Elite men. With Tim Eaton having recently signed for Giant he was keen for a big result with his new sponsor.

When the dust had settled the top five were separated by just over five seconds, slightly surprising considering the track itself is just over a minute long for the Elite riders! It was Junior Australian representative, Dave McMillan, in first place followed by fellow representative Joey Vejvoda in second.

1. David McMillan 1:04.69

2. Joey Vejvoda 1:06.94 + 2.25

3. Jeremy Powell 1:08.67 + 3.98

4.A Tim Eaton 1:09.55 + 4.86

5. Phil Piazza 1:10.11 + 5.42

Winner! David McMillan took the win, a big confidence booster before he heads overseas. Photo: Tom Clarke

We had a quick chat with Dave and this is what he had to say about his run and the event in general; a?My run was fun, just tried to go fast and hold it loose, I was not really expecting much of a result because there were a good turnout of riders. Jeremy Powell and I have always been about the same pace at the rounds, so I thought he could take it out. As well as Tim Eaton who recently signed with Giant, so he was pretty hungry for the win. I have always been a few seconds behind him so it was a good feeling to know that the training Iave been putting in has been working. It was an awesome event that brings new riders into racing and will hopefully bring more and more people to race and ride in Canberra.a? This win is a great boost for Dave before he heads over to Austria for the World Championships, of course you can expect full coverage of the biggest race of the year on downhill247.com.
